PGA Can Survive an absent Tiger?

To say it has been a bad few months for Tiger Woods would be a slight understatement. So bad throbbing as he took from the media and sponsors, the subsidiary effect of his roots are really hit hard with a second group – the PGA.

PGA Tour kicked off 4 January 2010 with SBS Championship in Kapalua, Hawaii. What you do not hear about it? Exactly. By the way,. Geoff Ogilvy one of the tournament for the second consecutive year at 22 under Regardless, the victory did not get much coverage, except on the golf stores, because a certain person was not there. This was not particularly worrisome, since he rarely plays in the tournament. As the weeks pass, but this will be a major problem.

Catch a Tiger by his story … and see PGA cry! This basically sums up the situation. Tiger has a bushel with personal problems, and nobody knows when he returns to the tour. Until then, the PGA will have some serious problems. Statistics have shown that TV viewers fall around 50 percent, when Woods did not play. It is a huge problem for tournaments is already facing problems in a tough economy.

Take the San Diego Open at Torrey Pines in the last week of January. This is a tournament Tiger has traditionally always played. All indications are that he will not this year. Torrey Pines is a fantastic golf course, but the promoters have great difficulty finding a major sponsor of the tournament. The tournament was once known as the Buick Open, Tiger a sponsor, but it has all gone by the wayside. With a smaller television audience senses Woods, it is simply proving to be difficult to attract sponsors per radio reports out here in San Diego. The tournament seems as if it will proceed with a group of secondary sponsors, but it is a sign of things to come with future PGA events.

Any way you slice it, the PGA is in for a brutal year. A combination of a Tiger disappeared with a sour economic environment is a toxic mixture. PGA would survive, but a decrease in win purses may be players realize how important Tiger is to ride.
