The Greatest sport in the world on cable TV
Now, nobody wants to start an argument, but if you were asked what was the biggest sport in the world, what would you say? Granted, it depends on where you live in the USA. If you live up north or in the Midwest, hockey may be the answer. Around the Northeast, baseball is usually the most general reaction. And everywhere else in the country, people will respond either football or basketball. But when it comes to the greatest sport in the world, there can be none other than football.
Please do not jump up and scream right now, explains, is obviously on his way. Sure, football, hockey, baseball and basketball are great sports, but football is better than them because of its international recognition. Each country has several football teams and one team, and for many Latin American and European locations, football is life. When it is on cable and satellite TV, whole cities stop operations so that fans can watch their favorite teams compete.
In the U.S., football is not really that big of a deal. Of course kids play it when they are young, but as far as television coverage is concerned, it is dominated by all other American games in ratings. People would rather watch a football game than to sit at a football game on TV, even though football is filled with commercials every five minutes, while football plays continuously for two 45 minute halves.
One thing that many fail to realize is that football is broadcast on cable and satellite TV channels as much if not more, than all other American sports. While football and basketball have given nights at the best timing, there is always a football game on TV, whether FSN, ESPN or ESPN2. Of course, the hockey and baseball payment channels to play all the games live, but so does football. Indeed, football has more than a subscription service, so fans of any division in Europe or South America can obtain all the action. All Global games are posted.
But the main reason why football towers over all others, is none other than World Cup, the world-famous tournament, which takes place every fourth year. Pitting country against country, nation against nation, World Bank Cup is the ultimate event. The Olympics are great, but the World Cup is even bigger.
The upcoming World Cup 2010 in South Africa will be particularly interesting because for the first time ever, the American football team actually good. They have played very well on the international circuit, and if all goes well they could see themselves making it past the round-robin portion. This can lead to a change in tide in the U.S., which creates many more football fans. Not to mention to the 3D display technology premiered on cable and satellite television stations for the inaugural game in June, the football begin to see more converts than previously expected.
So while the argument still exists that it has truth is that football really is the world's only game.
